  CHAPTER 1

“Daddy, where we going?” JJ said as he was kicking the back of the seat in front of him. Jason knew any minute now the lady in that seat was going to turn around and lose it on him and Jason would not be able to blame her. Jason had only ever taken JJ on a plane one other time and that was when they were flying to JJ’s mom’s funeral. Casey’s parents had wanted her buried in her home town in Maryland. Jason had been in such a state of shock about her death and discovering that she had been in the car with her boyfriend giving him a blowjob on their way to a couple’s retreat that, to be frank, he had not cared where she was buried. Jason had known that his active little boy would not do well on a plane which was why he had not been on a vacation in years. Jason did not like to leave JJ with anyone but his grandparents or Mr. and Mrs. Valdez. So deciding spur of the moment to go after Sabrina meant he had to bring a kid hopped up on candy on a plane. Luckily, he was able to get the last two seats in first class so that JJ would have more room on the flight which, so far had done him no good.

“JJ, didn’t I tell you to stop kicking that seat?” Jason whispered to his son in a stern tone while grabbing his leg to show him that he meant business. Just then the woman in the seat in front of them stood up, turned around and smiled at Jason.

“It’s alright. I don’t mind. I mean, I do not have any kids but I know that flying can be rough on the best of us,” she said to Jason. Once she was standing in front of him, Jason could see the entire sexy ass woman that had been sitting in that seat. ‘How the fuck did I miss her?’ Jason was thinking. She was a gorgeous black woman with long legs and ass for days. She had to be at least five foot nine flat footed but she was wearing six inch stilettos. She was wearing a gold white skin tight open back body-con dress with head to toe gold accessories. Jason knew from looking at her that this woman would be caught in nothing less than designer clothes financed by someone else. She extended her hand to Jason bringing him out of his trance.

“My name is Lynda. Nice to meet you,” she said leaning down so he could get a good look at her cleavage.

“Daddy, I can see Lynda’s boobies!” JJ said covering his eyes. Laughing awkwardly, she stood up a little still trying to pull Jason’s attention to her figure. Jason took her hand smiling.

“Excuse my son. He tends to be very… well, frank. My name is Jason and this is my son, Jason Jr. It’s nice to meet you,” Jason said extending his hand to her.

“Nice to meet you too, JJ,” Lynda took the liberty of saying. A liberty she should not have taken.

“You cannot call me JJ. Only people that know me can call me JJ and you don’t know me,” JJ said in a very confrontational tone. Once again being humiliated by a toddler, Lynda took her hand out of Jason’s at the same time giving JJ the evil eye.

“So what is taking you to Maryland, Jason? Are you taking this precious little guy back to your ex-wife?” Lynda said smiling. She was trying to pretend that she was not bothered by all the moving that JJ was doing or the extra noise but Jason knew that a woman like her was about to come unhinged any minute and since she was trying to hit on Jason, he figured he would let it play out! True to form JJ answered for him.

“My mommy died. I can’t go and see her until I go to heaven or hell wit-eva her end up,” JJ said now deciding that this conversation was a lot less boring than raising the shutter of his window up and down.

“Oh, Oh I am so sorry!” Lynda said blushing. Jason waved his hand in the air to not worry about it.

“It’s ok. How could you know that I was a widower and military veteran just by looking,” Jason said smiling at her. The speed at which her demeanor and face changed was a record for Jason and he knew that it would. He was not the type of father she was looking to strap herself to. She was looking to attach her to a daddy that would bring in the upper seven figures so that she could “accidently” make him a daddy again and sit around on her designer ass for the rest of her life.

“Oh. Well I couldn’t,” Lynda said on a disgusted tone wiping her hand on her dress as if Jason had scratched his ass and shook her hand. “Well it was… interesting meeting you both,” she finished before sitting back in her seat.

Shaking his head and laughing to himself, Jason returned his attention to JJ. “JJ, if you put your hand on that shade again, I promise I am going to spank you when we land, young man,” Jason said with all the sternness that he had ever used on JJ. JJ took his hands off the blinds hearing his dad’s ‘I mean business’ tone and said, “Yes sir.”

“Daddy?” JJ said looking up at his dad.

“Yes, JJ,” Jason said with his head back and eyes closed.

“Where are we going?” he asked again. Taking a deep breath and looking at his watch, Jason realized they would be landing within the hour so he could tell his son now where he was going.

“We, my, son are going to see Miss Brina,” Jason said to his son who immediately did what Jason knew he would do. His eyes became big as saucers and like every other excited five year old screamed, “MISS BRINA! I GOING TO SEE MISS BRINA?” at the same kicking the back of Lynda’s chair. This time, it was not so ok with her.

“Stewardess, Stewardess?” she said in a hostile tone waving her hand.

When the flight attendant approached her seat, she said, “Yes Ma’am?” smiling. Lynda looked her up and down and said, “Don’t call me ‘ma’am.’ I think you are twice my age, aren’t you?” in the bitchiest tone Jason had ever heard.

“How can I help you?” the flight attendant said removing the smile from her face.

“Is there another seat that I can be moved to? When did this airline start allowing children in first class?” Lynda said. Ignoring the last part of her question, the flight attendant said, “I am sorry, ma’am, but first class is all booked and I will not ask another one of the passengers to inconvenience themselves for you. There are some empty seats in coach if you would like to move there.” She gave her a smile that spoke “Fuck you Bitch” in volumes.

“COACH!?” Lynda said, looking at her like she had asked her to sell her ass for the $50 it was worth Jason thought.

“UGH. Never mind. Bring me a double scotch right away,” she said waving her hand to dismiss her.

The flight attendant looked at JJ and gave him two suckers, wings and a bag of chips before giving him a high-five, and patting Jason’s shoulder who was doing all he could not to double over in laughter. Ten months ago, Jason would have had that Lynda woman in the bathroom with her ank
les on his shoulders fucking her silly before she learned that he was just a Joe Schmo. But not now and Jason knew that was because of Brina. Even without the sex, Brina was all he thought about some days, she was all he wanted to think about. Her strength, spirit, strength, tenacity, and sense of humor, selflessness, and host of other things made her the most amazing woman he had ever met. But with the sex, for him, she was the thing that raised the sun and set the moon. ‘WHAT? WAIT,’ Jason thought, popping his head up. ‘Did I just think that’? Schroeder, are you catching feelings for your best friend? Yeah, fool, you hopped on a plane with full price tickets and chased after her when a text or email would do and those are free’ his conscious said to him.

‘Ok, first things first; see Brina and figure out what the hell is going on with you. Then see a therapist because you and your mind just had a convo where you called yourself a retard.’

Jason’s hand immediately started to sweat and his heart rate went up by fifty beats per minute. Raising his hand, he signaled for the flight attendant.

  “Yes sir?” she said.

“Can I get a double scotch straight?” Jason said in a squeaky voice. Clearing his throat he smiled and said, “I mean straight.”

  CHAPTER 2

“Good Morning, baby,” Sabrina said to Noah waking him up to get ready for school while kissing him all over his little face and neck. Noah started to squeal and push her away laughing.

“Get away, Momma!” Noah said wiping his face. “No kisses, Momma, I am a big boy now,” he said laughing. Noah had sat her down about a month after his fifth birthday and told her that he was too big for kisses, only hugs, and Sabrina had agreed but sometimes she could not help but shower kisses all over him and this morning was one of those times. Sabrina’s flight had gotten in late last night or early this morning, however you chose to think about it. When she had reached into her pocket to call Natalie to find out what gate she was waiting at, she realized she had lost her phone at the airport in Texas. Then to top it off, it had taken her twenty minutes to find Natalie and soon as she saw her, she had started with the third degree.

“So what happened?” Natalie had said on the ride back to her house. Noah was asleep in the back seat of her Range Rover. It was so late Sabrina had not expected him to be awake.

“What do you mean? Nothing happened,” Sabrina said looking out the passenger side window.

“Don’t even try it. Spill it,” she said.

“There is nothing to spill,” Sabrina said. “I went, we had sex twice and I decided it was time for me to go home. End of story,” she finished shrugging her shoulders.

“Wait, Wait, Wait right there. You had sex with him again?” Natalie had said in a shocked tone looking back and forth between Sabrina and the road. “Heffa, don’t play with me, that right there is more than I know. You just went to Texas and went full on, hoe,” Natalie said laughing.

“I did not!” Sabrina said swatting at her. “We had sex again just before I left. Now you’re caught up,” Sabrina said hoping that would appease her. No such luck.

“So what prompted the early departure? And don’t tell me nothing because I know better,” Natalie said to her.

Taking a deep breath, Sabrina realized that Natalie was not going to stop until she told her so she might as well.

“We had sex again and we had it in his dining room and then in his bedroom. Well, he feel asleep after...” Sabrina was telling her when Natalie cut her off.

“Typical man, bust a nut, roll over, scratch his ass and go to sleep,” Natalie said.

Laughing, Sabrina said, “Do you want to know what happened or not? Silly ass woman,” Sabrina said to her friend.

“Ok, Ok. I am sorry. Go,” she said.

“Anyway, after he fell asleep, JJ woke up from his nap and knocked on his bedroom door asking for something to eat. I decided to let Jason sleep. While I was feeding JJ, he happened to mention that no other woman besides his mother had ever slept in his daddy’s bed and that if he let me sleep in his room, it meant he wanted me to stay.” Pausing, Sabrina looked out the window. “The writing was on the wall as far as I was concerned and I needed to get out of there.”

There was a silence in the car that lasted at least thirty seconds. “What the fuck?” Natalie said “Ok, excuse my confusion but what writing? Is this in invisible ink? What does it say ‘X marks the spot’, the Crips and Bloods have gone back to the peace treaty? What?” Natalie said to her as she was looking at Sabrina like she was the dumbest person alive or at least a close second.

“Ugh! Nat, Jason does not feel anything like that for me but I realized when JJ said what he said that I felt something for Jason. I am not going to set myself up for that heart break. You know Jason has no intention of ever caring about, or have anything to do with, a woman besides how many positions she can fold into comfortably without screaming the safety word.”

Frowning like someone had just ripped off a fart in the car, Natalie said, “Ok talk to me like I ride the short bus. How in the hell do you come to the observations of yours, Brina?” she finally said.

“Ugh… see, this is why I did not want to talk about this,” Sabrina said irritated.

“Brina, we can talk and you know it. But you need to make some damn sense and right now you are not making any,” Natalie said, pausing. “Brina, a five year old told you what I told your ass before you left here and you turn tail and run. Why?”

“Ok, let me put it this way. When I got to Texas, I met his neighbor, a wonderful Latino woman. We spoke a little Spanish and Jason was oblivious to the fact that I speak Spanish and I have told him like five times,” Sabrina said.

“Okaaaayyy?” Natalie said in a questioning tone.

“Jason is not in love with me, he does not like me, not in the way he should to be more than friends. He likes that fact that I listen to him. I listen to all his problems, him and his dead wife, him and his former in-laws, him and his friends, him and the ninety-eight women that he is fucking on any given day of the week. I listen and I support because I care. I believe he does too. But I was already in that relationship where what he needed and wanted was what came first all the time and look how that turned out,” she said taking a deep breath. “No, Jason and I will never be more than what we already are; a one-sided friendship that is beneficial to him,” she finished.

“Brina, if this is how you felt, why did you go down there? Why did you sleep with him? Twice for God’s sakes,” Natalie said to her friend.

“Because when I went down there, Nat, I really was going to see who I thought was a good friend. I also thought I could be a FWB for a weekend and it not faze me. I was wrong on both counts,” Sabrina said.

They were both quiet all the way to Sabrina’s house. There is no mistaking the classic elements of Sabrina’s house. She always had inkling for interior design but never really wanted to deal with the hassle of “pleasing” people so she had kept her interest to her own home. Her living room was an open living area that flowed seamlessly into a massive, gleaming kitchen with a golden tile backsplash and huge amounts of counter space with massive double doors closing off the kitchen from the living room and its intricate moldings on the ceiling. She just recently had added a modern coffee table and sheer drapes letting in plenty of light making her home have a Parisian gourmand feel. Sabrina had put Noah to bed and unpacked her bag before she was tired enough to relax and go to sleep. She had gone to sleep thinking about Jason and woke up thinking about him. She had decided to call him at the end of the week.

“I am so sorry Noah, I just missed you so much. I will not let it happen again,” Sabrina said.

Noah jumped into his mother’s arms now giving her a bunch of kisses on her face. “I miss-ded you too, Mommy,” he said to her. Laughing, they wrestled around Noah’s bed before the doorbell interrupted them.

“Who is that at this hour?” Sabrina said more to herself than to Noah but he answered anyway.

“I don’t know, Momma, what ho
ur is it?” Noah said. Laughing, Sabrina kissed him and got up to go to the front door.

When Sabrina opened the door you could have knocked her over with feather.

“Excuse me, Miss. I am looking for my best friend. She looks a lot like you. She left her phone in my living room when she left my house without telling me she was leaving. Oh, and she is the best sex I am ever had,” Jason said.

She grabbed Noah’s ears to keep him from hearing what he was saying. Because JJ was asleep in Jason’s arms, she wasn’t worried about him.

“JASON!” Sabrina said to him frowning.

“Oh sorry, I am jet lagged and tired, I just paid a cab driver half my yearly pay to drive me five miles and my arms are starting to go numb. Brina, can I come in? This boy is heavy!”

“Oh Oh, I am so sorry. Come in, come in,” she said stepping back to let him in. Jason walked into the house. Sabrina took his carry-on bag and sat it on the floor and turned back to them.

“Jason, this is Noah, Noah this is Jason,” Sabrina said standing behind Noah. Noah looked up at his mom smiling and said, “Mom is that Uncle Jason?”

“It sure is,” she said smiling at him feeling very uncomfortable. ‘What was he doing here?’ Noah hopped forward and extended his hand to Jason.

“Hello, Uncle Jason. Nice to meet you,” he said smiling.

“Since when are we so formal with family?” Jason said to Noah. “Can you show me where your room is so that I can lay JJ down? Then you and I can have a proper greeting.”

“Yup, I can show you. Come on!” Noah said running up the steps.

“Stop running, Noah!” Sabrina said to her son. As Jason was on his way up the steps, he turned back to Sabrina, “Hey!” he said to her getting her attention. “When I get back me and you….” he finished by pointing with his two fingers from his eyes to hers. He then turned and went up the steps to find Noah.
